The proud Amur Leopard stands majestic
(Panthera pardus orientalis), a leopard subspecies
Endemic to the Primorye region
Of southeastern Russia and northern China
Amur is listed as Critically Endangered
On the IUCN Red List, as in 2007,
Only 19–26 wild leopards were estimated to survive
In southeastern Russia and northeastern China
They are considered one of the rarest cats on Earth
Easily differentiated from other leopard subspecies by thick
Pale cream-colored fur in winter, and Rosettes on the flanks
Widely spaced, with thick, unbroken rings and darkened centers
Proud Amur possesses long dense hair, and finely soft fur
The Amur leopards are endangered; they have been hunted for their fur
Also, most unfortunate, their food sources are running out... The feed on
Fish, Rodent, Monkeys, Baboons and Snakes. UGH!
It's winter coat varies from fairly light yellow to dense yellowish-red
With a golden tinge, or rusty-reddish-yellow
In summer, the fur becomes brighter, more vivid in color and pattern
Rather small in body size than other tigers
Males are larger than females
They have high regal shoulders and longer tail
Leopards are quite dangerous animals, even to us humans
They are especially dangerous and aggressive when protecting their cubs
Territory, or their food. Also, be careful of wounded leopards
They tend to be even more aggressive
The only animals who are more dangerous predators than the leopard
Are tigers in Asia and lions in Africa, so the leopard has adapted to be the
Smartest of the cats, a matter of opinion, I may offer
To survive, Leopards are among the most adaptable predators.
If they lose forests, they live in farmlands
If they lose wild prey, they live on livestock
Such beauty to be found in danger in the wild!
