Amber shades

Poppy's September prompt

By Antoni De'LeonPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

An amber feather sits upon the shrine I built to you

Candled flames leap in supplication to your fading memory

I kept it, you see, the feather which you once gave me

Oh, it was so very long ago, how we had laughed back then

Now, both our lights have dimmed just a bit, the feather and I

The crow, the great big brute of a raven

Still sits and caws outside the window

Is it you, come back for me, haunting me

beckoning me home towards the light

The candle's flame leaps as the ravens quoth and caw

A murder of crows, so aptly named

Murder for murder, tis only fair

It's all coming up aces now!

The crows to do the deed

That I once did to you!

Oh so lovely, melancholic and darkly brooding. I really like the nostalgia here. Great choice of words.
