Almost

a half-written story

By Madison JadePublished 2 months ago 1 min read

Why does almost hurt so much?

That ghost that lingers in the corners of your soul—

a story created with the taste of forever,

but you can never swallow.

A life built out of moments that never fully happened—

conversations half-finished, barley started,

touches that traced the edges of your heart.

Almost teaches you the shape of love,

the warmth of the sun through glass—

close enough to imagine the feeling,

too far to rest in it.

Almost swears the stars have rearranged themselves

to make room for our names.

Walls painted with your potential,

sleeping under stars of promises I made to you in my mind.

A slow bleed,

an ache without closure,

grief for something without a name.

The look in your eyes that says maybe,

when my heart was already saying please.

Almost hurts,

because the soul doesn't know the difference.

It felt you

Recognized something pure,

but could never be.

An accidental glitch in the timeline—

what maybe was in another life,

but could never be in this one.

But almost is the start to forever,

because the ache of almost

is what finally teaches us

we deserve all the way.
