Almost An Entire Year

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 2 months ago 1 min read

[Verse 1]

I bought a new journal, wrote the date real bold

January’s promise in a winter cold

Said, “This is gonna be my year,” with a fire in my chest

But twelve months later, I’m still cleaning up the mess

[Pre-Chorus]

I’ve been chasing light through the fog and fear

Telling myself, “This is gonna be my year…”

[Chorus]

But I’ve been telling myself that for almost an entire year now

Still waiting for the break, still learning how

To hold the hope without the shame

To dance in the dark and bless the rain

It’s not perfect, but it’s mine somehow

This is gonna be my year—just not the way I planned it out

[Verse 2]

I’ve made some mistakes, I’ve lost some sleep

I’ve planted seeds I may never reap

But I’ve laughed with strangers, cried with friends

And found some grace I didn’t intend

[Pre-Chorus]

I’ve been walking slow, but I’m still here

Telling myself, “This is gonna be my year…”

[Chorus]

But I’ve been telling myself that for almost an entire year now

Still patching up the cracks, still taking vows

To speak with love, to show up true

To build a life that feels brand new

It’s not easy, but I won’t back down

This is gonna be my year—just not the way I planned it out

[Bridge]

Maybe the promise wasn’t in the win

But in the trying, again and again

Maybe the year was never meant to shine

But to teach me how to make the light mine

[Final Chorus]

So I’ll keep telling myself that for as long as I need to

I’ll keep showing up, even when I bleed through

I’ll write the line, I’ll sing the song

I’ll claim the year, even if it feels wrong

It’s not perfect, but it’s mine somehow

This is gonna be my year—starting now
