All The Things I Couldn't Say

tell her she can find me in you and within

miss me in pieces

in meticulous thought-out fragments

dress me in satin, smother me in kisses

cut me out into little stars

adorn them in her nursery

by the lights, by the monitor, by her crib

tell her how we met,

how we felt time stop and the world still

tell her how the tectonic plates ceased movement

how our continental drift made mountains

Everest, here we come

Mount Rushmore, you are nothing before us

tell her I’m home, the only one I’ve ever known

don’t hesitate to tell her the secrets of the dark, the evils of the world

tell her that I love her in seismic waves

tell her the why of us

tell her why there's no us

not anymore

tell her she can find me

in you and within

for I live in your ragged breaths

and her cherubic smile

forever in the story

woven of us

sad poetry
