All The Signs

If all the signs were there... -why isn't he or she?...

All the signs were there...

and as clear as day.

The red in her eyes were red flags

and tear‐stained cheeks couldn't possibly speak louder‐

Cries from a war that no one knew she was waging,

hurts that no one had laid eyes on,

A battle was going on far below the tension of the surface...

what healing that hadn't taken place,

eventually, took her away‐

She was fighting for life, and not a single soul knew.

All the signs were there...

There was something missing from his voice,

and a lot of it...

his false smile said everything he felt he couldn't‐

Scars laid on his heart that never made their way to the surface of his skin,

and what would otherwise be written across his wrists continues to cross his mind...

not any form of jewelry,

because he feels he can't afford to be put on any kind of watch‐

If all the signs were there...

How could she have gotten so far away?...

walking through each day only looking forward to being asleep that night‐

How'd he arrive at the belief that he was too far gone?...

who knows if he'll be seen again in the daylight‐

If all the signs were there...

How could the world continue to ask,

"Are you OK?..."

only to be met with a perfectly crafted, fake smile

and be okay with such a response‐

If all the signs were there...

then why is she, and he no longer...

About the Creator

Josh Morgan

Personally, writing began as a creative outlet, to be a means of processing and venting emotion, but it has become so much more. Something I want not to be just relatable, enjoyable and a good read, but to reach someone who is in need.
