All that is Golden is now Silver
A Free Verse Nature Poem
The warmth fades and our embraces grow tighter,
seeking comfort as the world turns.
The leaves fold inward, crunching and curling,
releasing the last of their color to the forest floor.
Creatures scuttle for their burrows, bird-song grows quiet -
the owl hovers without an easy meal.
The wind roars, the trees tremble -
the trickle of the stream slows and cracks,
turning solid; unmoving.
The sun wheels closer to the horizon,
kissing the emptying fields of wheat.
The stale air tastes crisp once more,
and the stars burn brighter in the cold night.
All that clung to life now withers;
all that was golden is now silver.

A wonderful observational poem
This is so very lovely. Rich, evocative language, perfectly painting the stark yet beautiful turn towards winter. Bravo, Amanda!
