All of the Colors I Am
(A story about the woman who does not fit into one box.)
I am many colors.
I am many things.
I am a part of my ancestor’s DNA.
I am black.
I am white.
I am Portuguese.
I am Dutch.
I am Indian.
I am European.
I am many things.
I cannot be defined by one race or thing.
I am many labels.
I am a mother.
I am a wife.
I am a widow.
I am a daughter.
I am a sister.
I am a student.
I am a friend.
I am a woman.
I am a warrior.
I am strength.
I am shy.
I am brilliant.
I am adventurous.
I am a conservative.
I am brave.
I am young.
I am free.
I am loved.
I am emotional.
I am happy one day.
I am sad the next.
I am human.
No! You cannot fit me into one category to describe me as one thing.
I am not one thing, color, emotion, or label.
I am a woman that cannot fit into one box and one box only.
“Check here.”, they say!”
“One box only”, they say!
I cannot fit into one box!
I will not fit into one box!
I will not be segregated into tiny pieces of my identity to fit into a representation of what you see fit because I am too complex for your understanding!
I can’t fit into your box; because of all of the beautiful colors that I am.
