A Poem on Isolation

As a teacher, one comes across that one student in class who doesn’t seem to have any company. While some don’t graduate from school any worse for wear, others display signs of societal maladjustment. Many grow up in harsh environments or create them.

Ostracism has undesirable effects. Read this lullaby from the perspective of a parent.

Hush now, babe, don’t make a sound,

No one’s there when you’re around.

The night is quiet, its silence deep,

And you, alone, are sound asleep.

A song hums a sad goodbye,

As sounds of children’s laughter die.

Once you also laughed along,

But now they’ve left you all alone.

Sleep, my dear, please don’t be blue,

Though they have, forgotten you.

Please still play, please still be bold,

Don’t let loneliness take hold.

Rock-a-bye, in your soft bed,

Don’t let their words invade your head.

Their song may wrap you in its sound,

But don’t let its tune get you down.

Close your eyes, and you will see,

The face of love, belongs to me.

My lullaby, it will console,

And my soft words will make you whole.

Hush now, dear, let the world fade,

You’re not behind, your price is paid.

My lullaby stays now, soft and slow,

Song of new sights to behold.
