Alien Friend

A Welcome to Earth

By Donna HayPublished 2 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

Welcome to earth, my alien friend,

A crash landing! You’re on the mend?

I’m sorry it was such a bumpy flight;

I hope that what I show you makes it alright;

They say joy can heal all things

So I’m gonna show you the thing that brings

Happiness to my life each day

No matter the hard things that come my way;

It’s the first thing you should see on earth

Because in my opinion, for what it’s worth,

It what makes this place so divine,

A taste of heaven, simply sublime.

Here you go: can you see what I see?

It’s all the people who’re different from me:

Some are tall or short or total nerds,

Some love baseball, others like birds

They have different tastes and different likes

Some read all day, others ride their bikes,

They come in different colors, shapes and moods;

They speak different languages, eat different foods,

They have different ideas and different goals,

They answer differently: for whom the bells tolls?

They cry and laugh about different things,

And when I see them, my heart sings.

You see, dear Alien, here on earth,

Whether you’re close to death or close to birth,

Each person is important and so unique;

It's the best of what we are, the pinnacle, the peak.

What I hope this shows you while you’re here

Is to be yourself, if you dare,

And to allow others to be themselves, too,

Because you empower others when you’re truly you.

It was so great to meet you! Now go have fun!

Dance in some raindrops, bask in the sun,

But remember that what makes this a special place

Are the amazing people of the human race.
