Alchemy
a sonnet
From murk and mired roots that once were drowned,
Buds began to burst through muddied water.
From darkest night, souls wand’ring, North Star found,
Soft hands led this pig away from slaughter.
*
You cupped my feet as if they were treasure,
Buried beneath sand, running out of time.
We counted moments, forgot to measure,
Remembering that we are both divine.
*
Our tongues began to wag and weave the tales,
Of warp and weft, of joyous and bereft,
We ate our tails with each inhale, exhale,
Transmuting poles like an alchemist, deft.
*
As if turning base metals into gold,
We sought in darkness what could not be sold.

Wooohooooo congratulations on your win! 🎉💖🎊🎉💖🎊
🎉🎉🎉I felt like I went to the deepest depths of the earth with you. Then the gratitude. 👌🏾 'We counted moments forgot to measure. ' love this line. Love the magical elements. It makes me feel like I could touch the stars. Love the last line. It's a total gem. Love how it reflects back to the first few lines. Outstanding, E.K, congratulations on your win 🤗❤️🖤🎉🎉🎉
Well done, yet again, E.K! Love the alchemy metaphor and the way you described it in the finishing stanza!
I especially loved your last two lines!
