Aisleless

a poem

By Aaron MorrisonPublished about 16 hours ago 1 min read

O holy day

Pass the vipers

To your sisters

To your brothers

My arms puncture scarred

Yet I live

I am stronger than Paul

Look to me

Covered in sweat

And fire of the Spirit

Raise your hands

Shout in exaltation

Scream hallelujah

In any tongue that takes you

Pass the vipers

To your sisters

To your brothers

Dance in fervorous liturgy

Throw yourselves prostrate in quivering praise

Gird your loins

For the world will devour

Unless you abide near me

Look at me

Look to me

If you cut me

Do I not bleed milk and honey?

I am your sustenance

I am your protection

Do not look Higher

Do not crack the Book

I am the direct line

Your lifeline

I will scream your salvation

Until my throat is rusted

And red speckles my handkerchief

Pass the vipers

Praise the vipers

Their pruning nectar

Keeps our number pure

So flail and shout

And place your faith in me
