Learning to Breathe

Air gets progressively thinner,

traveling upward is inebriating.

Pause. Adjust.

Close your eyes.

Breathe In.

Breathe Out.

Focus your mind -

Blue Skies.

White Clouds.

Escape the sensation of falling.

Pause. Adjust.

Look down.

Humanity below

Exhaling sighs of disappointment

Groaning. Reaching.

Breathe it in.

Exhale.

Pause. Adjust.

Air gets thinner.

Breathing is difficult.

It’s time to descend.

Falling gently

Taste the gentle wind

Rushing into your lungs

Like water filling each crevice

Overwhelming.

Excruciating.

Exhale.

No fear remains.

We’ve won.

Take it slow.

Look Down

Humanity wanders.

Pacified again

No longer hungry

No longer hunting

For now.

Releasing pressure.

Pulling the cord,

no air above me -

we can fly.
