The world on a string

Hanging from the hem of Nonna’s apron

Spaghetti sauce on my shirt from

Third helpings

Soft-sweet

Gravelly lilt

Never too far from a cup of coffee

Maple cabinets

Crooked drawers and

Rubber bands on every knob

The tang of big band

Sibilant buzz

Declarations of

Faith

Beautiful

Beautiful blue eyes

Dancing shoes

Laced with a melody

No one knows but

Us

Merriest kisses

Warmest hugs

Velvety

Boundless

Scribbles on junk mail

Recipe pages

Bursting margins

Matchbooks in a cast iron stove

Orange slices

Mint leaves

Strawberries

Smooth scrape of glass

Twirling

Finger bare

The string around my heart a

Petrichor rainbow
