After Two Years

A memory of reunion

By Paulette BeresPublished 3 months ago 1 min read
For my Dad, distance could never erase my love for you.

This poem is about the day my dad picked me up from the Philippines after two years apart. I didn’t know how to explain what I felt, so I wrote it down the way I remember it.

☁️ Poem:

I remember it vividly,

even with the sun in my eyes.

A tall figure walking toward me

and I wasn’t afraid.

I stayed still

because I knew it wasn’t a stranger.

He spoke first,

tears filling his eyes,

and I asked why he was crying.

“These are tears of joy.”

I had never seen anyone cry like that.

That was the day

I noticed his eyes were blue.

We walked together,

and he held my hand.

I never wanted him to let go.
