Lights, camera, action! This is my time to shine.

I know who I am, I am divine.

They finally see me, they know who I am!

Is this real life, or is this a game?

I've waited my whole life for this, don't you understand!

Move out of my way, so I can proceed as I've planned.

One step at a time I walk towards glory, I'm shinning, but still the furthest thing from holy...

Young black girl, in his story.

Who's story? Their story.

Being the background character, playing the roles they wanted me to play.

It didn't matter what I thought, or how I felt, I was just there to play; every script, every moment, and every scene, done as they wanted.

But I had dreams of my own you see, so I was always hunted...

Hunted by thoughts of, "woulda, coulda, shoulda", always ignited.

But then, I remembered; I was only playing my role...

Who's the author of this story, and why have I lost my soul?

This is not who I am, nah not at all.

I'd like to speak, to whoever is in control.

Slowly, but surely, I climb out of that hole, and into the next;

whole.

Lights, camera, action! There goes my soul.
