After The Flowers Die
A Poem By David Thomas for Katherine

After The Flowers Die
After the flowers die
and the wrapping paper is swept up on the floor
the lights turned out and crickets are the only symphony that you hear
my love for you will still be there in between happy events and sad ones too
after the dinner is over and dishes need washed and children need tended too my love will be there waiting
waiting for you in between life's moments like space between the notes of a song a safe space and a safe place for you to take off your shoes and sit for a while recharging from the rigors of life until its time
time to fight again in that war we call life
