Adorn That Attitude

Wear it with pride

He hides within the windows of his weary soul,

Peering cautiously from behind his blackout blind,

Fearful of the dawning day, pondering the actions of others,

Pained by the heartfelt agony this happens to remind.

**

Tears drench his inner sanctum,

Like rain drops that hover in minuscule bubbles,

Drilling his thoughts with haunted dreams,

Ensuring he agonises over all his troubles.

**

Much to his surprise he begins to smile,

As the sun warms his soul with future possibilities,

Yesterday, he reminds himself, is laughter fodder,

Just another tick upon his past liabilities.

**

He tears the blind from its roller,

Allowing the sun to shimmer around the edges of his world,

It’s time to awaken, to take life in hand,

And tackle the ups and downs as they swirl.

**

He dresses in positivity and brutal optimism,

Pulling on his big boy boots with hard steel toes,

Launches a wide brim hat upon his long dark hair,

And stares into the past, determined to beat his woes.

**

Fear is to be faced with laughter and grandeur,

Taking its reins and battling it into submission,

Gracefully fronting the danger thrown his way,

Casting life backwards if it stalks him without permission.

**

Now that he’s set for war and embracing his inner strength,

His troubles will run in the opposite direction,

He’s not to be tackled lightly now he’s standing his ground,

As he’s taking the bull by the horns in absolute perfection!

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
