Aanikobijigan
Ancestor = great-grandparent, and great-grandchildren
Aanikobijigan – Ancestor = 7 generations – great grandparents and great grandchildren
Our Great Grandparents thought about what they would need, and what their great grandchildren will need:
Sovereignty – self-governing - Sovereignty
Clean water – water is life
Land – hunt, fish, gather, and live life
Culture – language, beliefs, customs, food, clothing, dance, music,
Languages – Ojibwe and Dakota in Minnesota
~~
Seven generations are important to consider in all that we do. More consideration in all we do is for our grandchildren, our great-grandchildren. What will life be like for them? How will this look in the future? We will need water, our culture, language, beliefs, and customs. Our history is important to know, so that we keep what has worked for centuries.

Prejudiced
I was just dismissed
then I was pissed
We are talking resist
against wanting us not to exist
I will persist
Even if I have to subsist
Racism
fascism
schism
rightism
chauvinism
elitism
narcissism

Living in a world of hate
It can be difficult to find a mate
I found the one, and we did date
He grew up on the reservation
He has recovery and has a frustration
He is the one who understands the humor
I had no reservations about him being the one
the charm, no harm in that way or
his belief in a way other than mine for
I can live with that if he can. My Hon.

I can really feel the connection between ancestors and future generations here.
I'm so happy you found your one 🥰🥰🥰
So much of everyone's history is being forgotten, which is never a good thing. Love the poem, Denise <3 Also, I love the little lessons you give on your culture <3
That last part about your husband is lovely, Denise. A very pensive poem overall, made me think about how much of history and culture we are losing every day.
