A Young Rapper's Dream

An original poem.

By Daniel HickmanPublished 8 years ago 2 min read

No sleep i've already counted all the sheep maybe I'm an insomniac

Im laying in bed thinking about the future I almost have a panic attack but

then I remembered where my priorities were at

The thought of that comforted me like a warm hat on an icy day

I try to fill my head with thoughts of long days sitting on the dock at the bay

But the boss at work decided to dock my pay I said alright have it your way and I quit

Landlord visited and said this is my last night if no rent then I will be on the street

I tried to make rent I even sold the shoes on my feet it seems like soon my maker I will meet

But then again I have this gift of a wild lyricist and that's where my priorities exist

But how could I succeed with all this stress in my midst the situation is even above my wits

Maybe I can use my last dollar to move to the boondocks or I could gamble it and make a million

I chose the docks arrived at my new house and notice the doors didn't have locks

But now I'm alone working hard to make my lyrics work I head to the city on the weekend

Find a back alley met this cool cat named O'Malley he was a rapper he taught me the game

Now I put other rappers to shame I battle rap my way up and make my competitors pay up

I rose to the top and now my name is everywhere on the street I got noticed and they gave me a record deal

It was sweet for every lyric I got a hundred dollar bill but that didn't last I got dropped from my record deal

Running out of money I moved in with O'Malley together we came up and got signed big time

And now we get paid to spit rhymes last month we were featured in new York times magazine and we pump our music out of our lemozine

"knock knock knock" wake up and get out of here I open my eyes I realize it's all been a dream.... that's the landlord at the door I fear
