A Warrior Queen
In this battle we call life
She wanders the hallway of her deepest crevasses,
Lost in the memories of long forgotten wins,
Every endeavour she has beaten with her determination,
When it battles her wishes before she even begins.
**
Nothing is an easy ride in her life,
Never has been,
She fights tooth and nail; day after day,
While hiding her struggles behind a falsity screen.
**
When she understands the steps she needs to follow,
She’ll hold on tight; fingernails cut to the core,
Her inner strength grows exponentially,
Even when life shows her the way to the door.
**
Her perseverance is the reason behind the denial,
Her refusal to take the easy path a necessity of trust,
Knowing she’ll never gain entrance to her utmost desires,
Walking the dirt road is a sensory must!
**
Her heart breaks, it cracks, it bleeds, as she stands her ground,
Even encased in her toughest armour; iron clad tight,
Bloodied and bruise, she rides in on her glory,
After the bloodiest of battles and weariest of fights.
**
Her smile is worn with pride, deserving of its width,
As it didn’t come easy, every inch hard worn,
Her head held high in sheer defiance,
Refusing to be battered admissible throughout life’s scorn.
**
She stands tall when the wind blows its strongest,
Refusing to wither and hide as it tries to persist,
She knows her heart, has made up her mind,
And she’ll fight to the death to honour her wish.
**
She has the stories to tell of battles hard won,
Her greatest achievements have been heartbreakingly weary,
And although you see her standing strong, her smile dawned,
There have been many a day and night leaving her teary.
**
She will never back down, not even at the time of her demise,
A quitter? No, not a name she’ll ever wear,
Stubbornness born to boot, a strength she’ll ride hard,
Never backing down from a well written dare.
**
Her successes are built upon endurance and heartbreak,
Her resilience her greatest friend, always ready when she is in need,
She’s lived a colourful life of courage and pain,
And she has the fondest memories of the times life made her bleed!

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
