slowly ascending, unwrapping, enveloping, a marvel the dawn
bloom to pink lemonade sunrise
firework shine of autumn, explosion of colour brought
penultimate flash of viridian, mango, burgundy, plum, amber fluster
life before death, awake before rest, the soil beginning to chill
the shorter days crept in soft as a parent making sure the baby is sleeping
lover's waking earlier these days, putting dishes away in the morning
the droplet hanging from my tailpipe is becoming an icicle
i smell the ache of transition in deep, crispy air
who am i going into the turn of the season?
who will i be when i'm out of it?
cravings kick in when the daylight flickers
chocolate and comfort and cider and cinnamon
orange and cranberry lemonade refreshers that fizz on the tongue
how does it feel so close to christmas
and like it was august just yesterday?
commuted one day to a long warm stretch of wednesday
commuted home the next, fallen leaves plastering my windshield
the wipers push them away
my eyes are dry, air pulling the moisture from pupils and hands
house sparrows aplenty hiding not-hiding in the empty bushes
ghosty plastic bags drifting from a halloween yard
blown around and resting on a blowup snowman
clutch the thin jacket closed because you thought it'd be warmer
close the front door to the day, swaddle self in sound home
fluttery, chilly, the fog lowers in
a watermelon aurora twilight, dark
slowly descending, unwrapping, enveloping, a marvel into the night
