as i walked through the forest, heading down the path today
i could have sat and sworn i heard a tree above me say
good morning good day, have you heard some good news
i swear upon my life i was shaking in my shoes
i looked up at the crowns hanging high above my head
and if you don't believe a work i say, this is what they said
hello down there near the ground
i know you don't imaging the sound
that trees can make when you aren't here
but as you know things are not so clear
because here we are talking down to you
hopefully you hear us too
i sat there on the soft mossy ground
and looked to see who else was round
but no surprise no one was there
i wandered here without a care
so up to trees i spoke quite loud
i cannot believe what you have just said now
i have some questions so please listen up
is there secrets you want written up?
what should i say when i get home
my friends will ask and want to know
the trees just sighed and said some words
i could not believe what i had heard
they said to me a few simple things
like the fact that all forests love to sing
so what sound does a tree make when no one is near
a rhyme thats quite precious to hear
the next they shared to my surprise
that when trees get cut not just one of them dies
they all feel sad the loss its true
so please just think before you choose
to go buy a tree from forests felled
i know artificial doesn't do quite as well
but before you chop down holiday cheer
the trees will hope that you will hear
they want to live free out in the sun
not dead inside
weighed down buy the tons
so here i write through morning
and night
trying not to stop but to be polite
to respect our forests staunch protectors
and hope you might have listened to this briefest lecture.
