Looking through old pictures
Seeing family and friends
Who are no longer with us.
Remembering little things,
Like the time we played
In the ice-cold creek.
Or the time we hiked
The East Texas fields,
Looking for wild plum trees.
Or the time we drove
Up to Michigan
For the Christmas season,
And the weather was so warm
We couldn't even ice skate.
Or the first haunted house
I took you to,
And you were so scared,
You hid your face in my armpit
The entire time we were in there.
Memories are funny things.
You never know what will
Spark a flashback.
It could be the sight of a bird
Sitting in a Pine tree.
Or it could be as simple as
A shared bowl of ice cream sundae.
Baking chocolate chip cookies
Brings to mind all the children
I babysat as a teenager.
The smell of coconut
Brings back the memory
Of swimming with my cousins
On a hot summer day.
Just remember to cherish each
And every memory
For as long as you can.
For as long as you
Walk down Memory Lane
You keep them all alive.
