A Visit to Grandpa's

A Poem

Running around on the farm

Being chased by a friendly dog

Never coming to any harm

Sitting atop a log

*

Getting to ride a horse

Around the paddock

Hiding among the gorse

Getting to keep a unique rock

*

Leaning against a fence

Giving the dog treats

Being given fifty cents

To buy some small sweets

*

Bottle-feeding baby goats

Playing with the barn kittens

Getting to make paper boats

Not being forced to wear your mittens

*

Riding the tractor to the mailbox

Picking wild plums by the buckets

Running around in your socks

Getting antiseptic put on the cuts

*

We get to do all this and more

When we go on a visit to Grandpa’s

He has a lot of fun in-store

And we won’t have time to pause.

Come near, sit a spell, and listen to tales of old as I sit and rock by my fire. I'll serve you some cocoa and cookies as I tell you of the time long gone by when your Greats-greats once lived.
