A Very Sad Riddle
You know who…

A potion was made of thorns and oil, peppermint that smelled prettily
Moonstone and some Mother of Pearl, and locks of hair, fittingly
Ashwinder eggs in the potion water, then cooked and mixed it, civilly
This is the potion, that left a home broken, and a child with a permanent injury…
-
A wavering witch once spoke of the world with wonder, worry, and weary
She wished for the ways, they were in the days, before things all shifted so weirdly
Before she felt haunted, all that she wanted, was a life not wicked and villainy
And a boy that was wondrous, with wisdom and promise, and to never fade from his memory
-
Before this woman, could become a mother, she searched for a lover repeatedly
She didn't want a wizard, she wanted much different, something banned in their family history
She wanted a man, with no wand in his hand, but still accepted her witchery
She sought after change, a shift in her name, a serious separation from misery
-
Soon she met Tom, a man that was calm, someone who treated her decently
He didn't like magic, thought witches were savage, he'd talk about them while grimacing
But she still loved him, and hid from him, attempting to bond with secrecy
She believed love, would strengthen their trust, and he would accept her eventually
-
He thought she was beautiful, yet somewhat unusual, and came from a household of slithering
He could not see a life, of her as his wife, that she was continuously envisioning
Before this woman, could become a mother, she tried to find a lover willingly
But impatient and broken, she made a potion, and gave it to Tom with trickery
-
The potion was made of thorns and oil, peppermint that smelled prettily
Moonstone and some Mother of Pearl, and locks of hair, fittingly
Ashwinder eggs in the potion water, then cooked and mixed it, civilly
When giving this potion, if the person knows it, the effects will wear off instantly
-
In time she decided, the man she confides in, should hear what she is not mentioning
Her body was growing, and this was the moment, she had to show pride and dignity
To spell out the truth, about the magic she's used, and about her talents in wizardry
The outcome she saw, lowered her jaw, and for months she replayed it vividly
-
Her act of kindness, and removing his blindness, did not end how she was picturing
Some would say, and even I may, that her shock was from naiveties
Her husband pushed back, left all that they had, and condemned all of her abilities
When the potion was lifted, their love and their friendship, hastily began diminishing
-
Now all alone, in her now quiet home, she heard every floorboard that's rickety
Stared at her face, and new pregnant shape, and hated her taste grew more finicky
She stood and cried, for this child to arrive, with brilliancy and with dignity
She wished for him love, and the power to trust, and to conquer all thoughts that were menacing
-
She wanted his name, to be one that rang, and never brought fear or hostility
She wanted this seed, to fulfill his dreams, and live with unshaken humility
She wanted his magic, to be everlasting, and thrive throughout a century
The most beautiful wish, a mother could gift, if only this was what he grew to be
-
On December 31st, there was the birth, of a child on a night that was blizzarding
Named after his dad, whom he'd never have, to protect him from any enemy
This night seemed so bright, under the candlelights, they locked eyes as the lights were flickering
But then his dear mother, gave a sudden shutter, and died on the night of his entering
-
A wavering wizard was brought into the world with wonder, worry, and weary
He wished for a change, and fewer dark days, but his life shifted so weirdly
To get what he wanted, he had to be haunted, wicked, and filled with such villainy
But still, his heart beams, for the woman who gleams, in his dreams of a distant memory…
