A Time of Healing

it’s just gone ten am Monday

eastern standard time

normally i’m at work by now

but not today, this day is all mine

got six days off post-surgical leave

i do hope that's enough

despite the pills nerve numbing thrills

recovery is being a bit rough

trying not to over reach

trying not to chuck

having accepted all the sciences

and a wishful pinch of educated luck

the operation was a complete success

my future has been made brighter

but there is no deal until fully healed

and then it's just lessened and lighter

the pain i used to get from my sciatic nerve

is now but a memory to which i waved goodbye

and a couple of extra steps each day

is all i have to try

the wound is all sealed and covered

and in days the stitches will dissolve

and as the pain very slowly subsides

i make fast and strong my resolve

lucky to be in this time line really

and the odds do really bare counting

in any other semi civilised time or place

i would have been made to walk the mountain
