::::::::::::::::SOLDIER’S CHILD:::::::::::::::::

Fingers tiny, body small, petite baby girl eyes so large

Soldier’s fate encapsulated like a car on a barge

Stricken mute as a street corner mime

Nothing prepared me for so perfect a time

**********

Helpless, crying, squalling, wrinkled and red

Scream with every fiber pointed toes to her head

Perfection percolated in matronly womb

Created by loving combination egg and sperm

**********

From now unto death my heart in her hands

For this wailing infant shall I defend these lands

For her mother, my brother, and all that I love

Fight for their safety Hell to above

**********

Train and fight with all that I have

Believers in Christ or idolators fatted calve

My gear well prepared, my weapon pristine

March from Afghanistan to Chapel Sistine

**********

So long as I know my family is fine

Matters not if I drink water or wine

Slog o’er mountains and rain drenched forests

Ammo, faith and loneliness carried with sore wrists

**********

Well-thumbed faded picture pulled from pocket

Hank of blonde baby hair kept safe in a locket

Gaze once more on beloved missed faces

Before, for them, once more I tie my laces

**********

This soldier goes wherever he must

Following lawful orders till mankind be just

I’ll eat cold food and sleep on the ground

As long as our nation’s enemies abound

**********

Solemn vow declared to daughter and wife

To maintain their safety via duty and strife

This I know when all’s said and done

A warrior’s life is not meant to be fun

**********

Each day shall I pray to God up above

As I fight my battles, keep safe my love

Till one day soon my tour of duty is done

Back to loving arms this soldier shall run

**********

Heart swelling forth from chiseled chest

Indeed twas for them I did my best

Homeward bound where heart has always been

Live out my days with family… Now unto then
