A Smile Before the Darkness

Ever experience that feeling when

calamity stills, if just for a moment?

Love shines, glowing in her eyes, as

ideas form with a smile, as clear as the spoken words

perched on the edge of advancing dementia.

Seemingly now, all is bright and beautiful. All is calm. But then,

enveloping darkness; and not just for a moment. Forever.

Great work. I was a mental health nurse that cared for Alzheimer's/dementia patients. Your poem nailed all the emotions of the person and families.

  • Like the introduction and conclusion, good work

  • Quietly poignant and powerful Cathy. This one says so much in so few words, and to the heartbreaking reality that so many of us are familiar with. Well done๐Ÿค—
