A Sister From Another Mister

A Long Lost Twin From 1992 - One of the last poems I wrote over the Easter Holidays.

In a world that often feels cold and unkind

You came into my life, a rare find

A sister from another mister, a twin born years apart

A connection that resonates deep in my heart

Our passion for hard rocks, music that speaks to the soul

Brought us together, and made us whole

In many ways our lives mirrored, our struggles the same

The hurt and the pain, we never had to explain

When the sperm donor stormed out, and the stepdad stepped up

Our childhoods were a battlefield, a never-ending disrupt

School was doomsday, with insults that kept us awake

Daily prayers and homework, for a brighter future we'd make

Then college came, and the stars aligned

Welsh countryside camping, vegan feasts that blew our minds

Great nights out, new memories made

A bond that only grew stronger, as the foundation was laid

But then came work, and the pandemic hit

No more concerts, theatres, or trips that would lift

Anxiety broke my twin's heart, and it broke mine too

All the doctor visits, endless tears, nothing new

When she was diagnosed with obesity and laziness

I felt her pain, her sadness, her distress

But a therapist prescribed S Club 7, a remedy for the soul

And slowly but surely, we're taking back control

We may be different now, our paths may have diverged

But I know that the bounce and the spice will return

Because we're not ready to write the obituary

A good old doughnut can still bring her to her happy place, and we'll face this together, a bond we'll never replace.
