A Semi-Sonnet

Typical subjects of meditation

By Rob AngeliPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

When the lotus-brain

was glutted on blood

with roots steeped in mud--

thunder laced the rain

which ran down the main

walkside like a flood,

then nipped in the bud.

Thunderclaps refrain

on the scene of play

where memories fade

or begin the fray

consumed by the shades:

where settling to stay

it rains on parades. (wet socks)

This is a semi-sonnet as it has five syllables per line rather than ten or eleven. I chose the schema ABBA ABBA CDC DCD in the Italian or Petrarchan style for the rhyme and have favored falling rhythms rather than rising.
