A Real Love?

Is hope alive?

Romance came much too easily,

Falling for those lacking decency

With a burning need for frequency.

*

Susceptible to love’s paradigms,

Burned far too many times,

Subjected to emotional crimes.

*

Later, leery of another rejection,

Walled off for protection,

Avoiding all affection.

*

A wide-eyed gaze defies the wall -

A crazy, kindred oddball,

Perhaps a subsequent downfall.

*

Is this pure deception?

Time for mindful introspection,

Possibly careful reception.

*

With demonstration of faithfulness,

The time had come to acquiesce,

Hoping for lasting success.

*

Will this be the counterpart?

Will it last beyond the start?

Time will tell, as will my heart.
