A Real Coldy

an homage to the combination of hops, malt, yeast and water in a beverage

By BrenPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

the coldest beer

i ever drank

came out of

an ice encrusted tap

in the lounge bar

at the Pineapple Hotel

in East Brisbane

a blistering cold

pint of Stella Artois

it chilled my throat

nearly froze my neck

made my day

i wasn't driving

so i had another

it was no better

than the first

that bridge had been crossed

that particular cherry popped

this was a follow up

never as good as the first

but not going to make me

relinquish the chase

won’t make me forget

to relish the taste

the promise

her cold and golden

moist promise

handed to me

across a varnished bar

made of locally felled redgum

in return for the coins

out of my pocket
