A Rainbow Bridge

If I shall cross the Rainbow Bridge in the middle of the night, when you are dreaming your human dreams, just know that I am happy. For you gave me a life I never imagined I would have, you gave me love I never imagined I would receive. There are no words to describe the family you have been to me, my dear humans, and even if I could talk I wouldn’t know where to begin.

Maybe I’ll start from the beginning, when you found me at the shelter, skinny and not very lovable. Or maybe I’ll start from when I shared my first Christmas with you all and I got so many toys I could call my own, toys I didn’t have to share with any other dog. Or maybe, I’ll tell the other angel dogs about the time the small humans in the family put cool aide on my fur coat and I was pink for a whole month.

But those are besides the point, the point is that my time in this family is coming to an end and I must prepare myself for the long journey up the Rainbow Bridge. For when I close my eyes and breathe my last breath for the last time, I want to remember your smiles, not your tears. I want to take with me the sound of your laughter and the smell of your love for me.

And yet I do not want to leave quite yet so I will do my best to hang on for a little while more, enjoy the peace and quiet of the night before the sounds of small humans echo throughout the house.

The Rainbow Bridge is calling and I must answer the call.
