A Quietude That Whispers

Winter’s First Breath

A Quietude That Whispers

I wake to the calm of a silver-lit dawn

A quietude that whispers,

“The past is gone”

The trees now glimmer

In the first light of morn

Their branches quite spruce

Donning ice-bound, dressing gowns -

A quiet coronation for sleepy towns.

-

Winter’s first breath…

- Freezing -

A pause from the fight .

A time to take stock

And a time to cool off

Relieve the strain of yesterday’s blight

Winter’s offering to the world…

A present wrapped in white

Slate wiped clean - as if brand-new

Starting afresh, hopes renew

Softly spoken promises

“We’ll see this through.”

-

Each step I take on the frozen ground

Echoes with stories the cold has found

Of tears once fallen - now crystallised

Of anger cooled - and love realised.

-

Time presses forward

As frost greets the day

Melting the sorrows, that once held sway.

Strangers of seasons

We all have our reasons

Best friends drift apart

But Winter, cannot temper

The warmth of an altruistic heart.

-

The crisp air bites sharp

Yet it feels like a gift

A cleansing, a mending, a seasonal shift

Whilst brittle branches, may creak and sway

Their strength endures, in the coldest grey.

-

So, here I stand - defiantly

In this moment of tranquillity

Breathing in the magic, the solace, the grace

Under seasonal spell

Of Winter’s chilled embrace…

Invigorated!
