A Plague of Words

Full Moon Fantasy

By Fiona HamerPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

Fear in the eyes,

Taunts and lies,

A dream spins over my sleeping head.

Words slippery and slimy,

Words hard and chunky,

Words sliding gleefully headfirst,

Free at last to do their worst.

Threats and Show,

How far will they go?

The mean one snaps,

The vague ones leave only gaps.

Joyful is leaping over the trees,

With Surprise bursting and popping in the breeze.

Over my sleeping eyes,

The light of the Moon-rise.

The Lie wriggles and changes shape

From Smile to Frown and then to Gape.

Who guards the world from these wild words?

When Brightness and Truth have flown like Birds,

Into the hazy Sky,

When will Morning be nigh?

These words are Fighting,

Stealing, Slighting

They drip like Poisons

They layer like Onions

Is that shadow hiding Peace and Truth?

Where is Science and its heavy friend Proof?

The rough warm texture in

Kindness and Connection?

They pull on my ears,

A plague of Fears.

They redden my eyes,

This plague of Lies

The moonlight whispers

Their secrets as I whimper.

Waiting for Daylight

And the end of the long Night.
