The Big Bike
Imagine waking up on a beautiful summer day and your aunt tells you and your cousins we can't go outside until chores are completely done. As an eight year old, those are the worst words you can hear when you already hear your friends outside playing and riding their bikes preparing for a morning bike ride up the hill. Well after my cousins and I finished our chores 4 hours later, we were ready to hit the outdoors. Although we had already missed the earlier shenanigans' we still had the whole day to make up what we had missed. My cousin Des wanted to go on a bike ride up the hill since we had missed out on the earlier run. We all agreed to go but we had a problem, nobody wanted to ride the "Big Bike." You see every summer my aunt got her nieces and nephews over for the summer for two weeks after school let out. We had everything a kid needed to have to enjoy the summer-time. My aunt really went all out, she got bikes, roller skates, rollers blades, snacks, chocolate and strawberry milk, games ranged from video, board and active and snacks. Did I mention snacks? She took us camping, we were in a club and so much more. She really made it fun for us so my cousins and I really anticipated leaving home for the the 1st two weeks of summer. Back to the "Big Bike", my aunt had four bikes 3 regular size and one for the teens. "Last one to the backyard is a rotten egg," and of course I was last one and a rotten egg so I had no choice but to ride the "Big Bike." I was always little and short so everyone laughed because I had to ride "The Big Bike." Now everyone had already taken off but me. As I finally got on the bike, I realized the breaks were different from the other bikes. The brake pads were on the handle bars instead of pushing the paddles in the opposite direction. I have never rode this bike before I always tried my best to avoid it and had no clue to how to use the brakes. But nevermind that, I didn't care if anything I'll just use my shoes is, what I said to myself. I finally caught up to my cousins and we rode the hill just as we planned. We made our way to back to the neighborhood and rode the bikes a little more before we decided to do something else. "Come on now guys lets go to Amber's and D.A.'s house their coming outside now," is what my cousin yelled. As we were putting the bikes away , my little cousin came to me and asked could I ride her around before I head off with the others to go across the street, I agreed. Remember I didn't know how to stop the bike with the handle bar brake pad so I was using my feet to stop. The adults started to come outside and sit on the porch to watch us play. I was riding my little cousin around and while I turning around I notice one of the adults walking towards the sidewalk where I was riding my bike. I screamed,"Tina I don't know how to work the brakes move to the grass," she shouted back "WHAT!", I shouted I said, next thing I know I was flipping over the handle bars, my little cousin flew off to the grass and "The Big Bike" was underneath Tina's skirt. Everyone laughed, Tina than shouted, "Krysten why would you do me like that. I replied I tried to tell you.
