A Parent's Final Request
For When We Both Need Patience
My dearest child,
Now that you are all grown up, all I require from you is patience, the same you lacked while I was raising you. Yes, remember that time when you used to teach me all that you know? I hope you’ll comprehend if one day I am not up to the task.
You used to fancy the stories being told over and over. If I ever forget them or get them entangled, just guide me – as you were sometimes guided when you were learning to walk. A love may be quiet but it is continually surrounding you.
Do you remember the strategies I employed to get you in the bath? I find myself unable to do things such as bathing on my own and it is not that I should get angry that I need assistance with such matters.
If I one day lose my direction and end up being a stranger to you, hug me with love as I did when you were lost.
I may, at some times, have some trembling in my hands; sometimes accidents may occur. Do you recall forgetting things, tripping and dropping things, or making a mess of something? I cherished you in all of them.
That is why, should my strength fail me, you turn to me in the same way as you come to me for my help in your first steps in ALTRUISM.
Still here just don’t cry when my life comes to an end. It was like you said; ‘Be close’; with me from the start.
The thing that has been a treasure to me all my life is unworthy of you. At that moment, take my write, it will not be sorrowful. Consider it in your best interest to know that I gave you everything that I have.
What has really shaken me most is the feeling of not wanting to leave yet, there is immense dread in leaving and more so when you will be left behind. Just be there, as you were always there for me. That's all I ask.
Yours lovingly, Your parent.
