A New Time Of Hope
The 400 Years Of Silence And Finding Hope Today

Today is Christmas Day...
A day that I always enjoy spending with family.
There are a lot of things that you can write about when it comes to this Holiday.
Faith.
Family.
Appreciation.
Presents.
But today, I am feeling pulled into the idea of Hope.
We live in a world that feels hopeless so often.
It can be difficult.
When you desperately want something to change in life...
The circumstances are not great...
But you get pulled back down.
Then comes Christmas time...
A moment of Hope...
Right before the New Year, when suddenly, so much begins to feel possible.
All brought about by the birth of Jesus.
Now, what you believe about Christianity is yours to decide and figure out...
But I think there is a fascinating story to consider regardless of your personal beliefs.
The Old Testament is a series of books, 39 or more, depending on which Bible you have...
With around 30 different authors.
Within these books, there are 300 Messianic Prophecies...
Foretelling of a person who will save mankind.
Throughout those different books...
The Jewish periods where their Kings ruled and were recognized as great...
And there were periods where the Jews were the lowliest of slaves.
Then...
There was a period of 400 years...
Known as the 400 Silent Years.
During this period...
As the name suggests...
There was silence.
No prophecies...
No prophets...
No guidance...
Just silence.
All while being ruled over by different groups...
And being pushed out of their homeland.
Can you imagine how hopeless that would feel?
Not years...
Not decades...
But centuries of silence?
A promise of a savior unfulfilled...
All while being scattered and oppressed.
How does a person hold hope in a situation like that?
Yet...
A child was born.
In the least expected of places...
Among the poorest of the poor...
Placed in a manger, like an unblemished lamb marked for sacrifice.
The Hope that had been promised.
This is all to say that...
There will be dark times...
When we feel that our prayers are not answered..
That there is no hope.
Yet...
That does not mean it is true.
Even when it does not feel like it...
There is Hope.
Perhaps not in the time that we hoped...
Perhaps not in the way we imagined...
But if we seek Hope...
We can find it.
During this Christmas season....
Begin to seek Hope in life.
