A Myriad March of Minuscule Marvels

Tiny but mighty

Ants

I met an ant the other day,

who had a lot to share,

“You humans, always in a hurry,

but do you ever dare

To slow down and appreciate

the wonders of the small,

The creatures that inhabit this planet,

we’re not so different after all.”

He carried on his back a crumb,

bigger than his head,

He seemed more ready for this life

than I, who often dread.

“You see,” he said, adjusting his antennae,

“we work as one,

Building empires underground,

a mighty kingdom, second to none.”

I smiled, picturing this ant

in a general’s uniform,

Leading his army, dodging every storm.

He told me of their queen,

so noble and revered,

“A queen that never speaks,

but we still know she cares.”

I thought of leadership,

how it’s more than just a show,

A lesson from an ant,

smarter than he knows.

“Did you know we can lift things

three times our weight?”

He bragged with a grin,

a fact he couldn’t wait to state.

I thought of my gym routine,

suddenly feeling weak,

Next to this ant,

I’m not so strong or sleek.

He spoke of ant parties,

where they feast and groove,

On sweet aphid honeydew,

their version of fine booze.

I laughed, imagining ants

in tiny suits, a classy crowd,

Dancing under starlight,

their own music loud.

“In winter, we cuddle close,

sharing warmth and tales,

Dreaming of summer picnics,

oh those crumbs so stale.”

I pondered my winter,

cozy in my bed,

These ants, they seemed to have more fun,

I said.

“Ever seen an ant bridge?

A wonder, a skill!”

He beamed proudly,

as if it was his own drill.

I nodded, impressed,

nature’s engineers at their peak,

Creating bridges and tunnels,

never growing meek.

“Ants don’t just walk,

we communicate with smell,

A trail to food, a warning,

messages we tell.”

I sniffed around,

realizing my own scent was dull;

In the world of ants,

I was off the smell pulse.

He sighed, “But life’s not all sugar and spice,

Sometimes it’s rain, and floods, and mice.”

I sympathized, recalling my own highs and lows,

In the grand scheme, we’re all just small heroes.

As he marched away,

his crumb held aloft,

I realized, in their world,

ants truly soar.

“We’re not so different, you and I,” I shout,

He waved an antenna, “No doubt, no doubt.”🐜

Poet’s Musings

Ants have always fascinated me. Since they invaded my bedroom closet, I can’t help but admire their tiny yet mighty abilities. They can lift objects many times their weight, build elaborate tunnels and towers, communicate in complex ways, and cooperate on impressive feats—marvels we humans struggle to match.

Intrigued, I decided to write a lighthearted poem capturing their essence. I wanted to explore their queen, society, and culture while contrasting their diminutive forms with our own clumsiness. Most of all, I sought to amuse—what better cure for solitude than an imaginary conversation with an ant?

So I conjured humor, rhyme, and witty dialogue to share these tiny sages’ secrets and opinions about us bumbling giants. My goal was to entertain and inspire, to make readers smile as they gain appreciation for an oft-overlooked wonder.

Though tiny in size, ants remain mighty in skill and teamwork. As an imagined ant’s perspective amuses us about the clumsy giants who share its space, we can learn from the industrious unity of ants. My musing lifts our eyes to appreciate the marvels underfoot.

Wait, don’t go. I would so love for us to be friends.
