A Mother's Loneliness

How it feels to love someone so deeply, and still sometimes resent them.

A stirring right beside me

A precious little smile

Tiny hands reach for me

An inch seems as a mile

The sounds of their laughter

The precious “I love you”‘s

Their feet go pitter patter

Running with no shoes

A mother’s love, a constant

Sometimes hollow seems

When laughter turns to crying

It’s nothing like your dreams

Little hands are reaching

Tugging, tears flow free

The touch somehow revolting

What is wrong with me

A love unlike another

But when the fun is done

This gnawing, gaping emptiness

Feels like I want to run

But where would I go

My love too much to leave

My heart could not handle it

I would do naught but grieve
