A Moment of Stillness

A Call for Collective Quiet

Let’s do something different. Let’s count to 12 and be still. Just once, let’s pause as a world, not speaking in any language, not moving a muscle. Imagine this: a moment without rushing, without the hum of engines, without the noise that fills every second of our lives.

It would be something extraordinary, an unusual kind of silence. Fishermen in the cold sea wouldn’t harm whales, and the man harvesting salt wouldn’t need to look at his sore, weathered hands. Those who prepare for battles waging wars with gas, fire, and all those victories that leave no survivors would pause, put on fresh clothes, and walk alongside their brothers in the shade, doing nothing for a change.

This isn’t about giving up or doing nothing forever; it’s about life, about taking a moment to breathe and see things differently. We’re always so busy, so obsessed with keeping things going, with living in a constant state of motion. But what if, just for once, we let that go?

Maybe, in that silence, we could ease the sadness that comes from never fully understanding ourselves or each other. Perhaps, in that stillness, the earth could teach us something remind us, like the quiet moments when we realize everything that seems dead is still very much alive.
