A Moment of Silence

And, at Last, a Clear View

By Alma ZavalaPublished about a year ago 1 min read

So much for the effort, the mission, the cause.

I wrapped myself up in a flag without pause.

Listened to every order with zeal.

Explosions ensured that my ears wouldn’t heal.

Now in the rubble from this last bursting sound

can I see so much clearer, my world so profound-

ending an era of loud... into dark silence I’m bound.

A story that masterfully presents the reality of war. A theater that we and our children pay for.
