A Midnight Winter

Winter kisses my frost-covered lips,

Songs of my long-lost lover linger in the shadows of autumn leaves.

A fireplace warms the bitterness of broken things,

As North winds carry you to me.

Please, young Prince, dance with me…

Tell me our memories aren’t just whispers of the autumn rains.

Only songs reach us within every heartbeat,

Speaking to us.

Tell me everything is real as we play pretend under the bright evergreens,

Just for one more night.

The snowflakes flutter above the colors of Christmas,

Gifting us with all this glitter.

Cloaking our souls with the laughter of a promised future.

How we smile when the music plays around us,

Just for us,

You and I.

Winter is told to be long,

But as we hold on for one more breath,

I see the lights and the snow melting away.

Our love,

Slipping away with every breath of spring.

So let us dance,

For just one more midnight,

Before we are no more but memories of a winter’s dream.
