Survival mode is hard to get out of
Situations may change
Pain is no longer there
But the mentality remains
Staying in the fight or flight state
But there is nothing to fear
Anxiety is high
Blood pressure elevated
Heart and mind racing
Becauses the thoughts never changed
Life got better
But it's still hard to breathe
Dreading each day
Crying all night
Because the mind never said “everything is alright”
In this state, the mind made a home
In this mode, there is only a dark hole
In this state, there is a disconnect between reality and mentality
Survival mode is a trap

This was an honest bit of poetry that covers that forgotten aspect of "survival mode" in that whenever we are triggered into that state, it doesn't stop after the traumatic event or triggering event has occurred. Like you say, it lingers, even when things seem okay, because our minds almost don't believe it. This was a great poem and with important truths worth pondering.
