A Memorable Christmas Tree
My Christmas tree is up,
Dazzling sparkling lights hang up.
Evergreen perfumes the heart of my hearthside’s air,
Like sweets at a holiday fair.
Gold baubles and frosted tinsel hug each branch,
Like the Nutcracker dances, twirling in a holiday trance.
🎄
A festive tree that is swaying,
With the rhythm of the Christmas songs playing,
Infused with my holiday mirth,
A joyfulness in my moment on earth.
🎄
Cinnamon flames all blaze,
Warming my cozy nook, as the sun lowers its tired rays.
As I gaze up at the enchanting tree,
A glimpse of red,
No,
A flicker of blue,
No.
🎄
Are Santa’s elves make mischief in my ribbon trimmed tree?
What madness meets my gaze!
It’s a bat!
Taking flight,
Right at me!
Merry Christmas!

This was inspired by an experience that had happened to my parents. Many years ago, my husband and I were decorating my parent’s Christmas tree. The music was playing, hot chocolate was being passed around, and it was a wonderful holiday afternoon. My parents had a very high ceiling in their living room, so this was a 12-foot Christmas tree. Towards the end of the decorating, we kept noticing movement from some branches on top. So my husband got up on the ladder again and thought maybe a chipmunk had been hiding in the tree. I thought, oh, how sweet. My Mother was not happy; she freaked out, not wanting an animal in her house. Well, it was no chipmunk. A bat came flying out of the Christmas tree. Chao ensured in our once festive living room!
So much for hoping that it was a cute little chipmunk!

Hahaha! This captures Christmas chaos perfectly—warm, festive vibes turning into a hilarious holiday adventure. A bat in the tree? That’s a memory to laugh about forever. Forget chipmunks; this tree came with wings!😆
Hahahahahahahaha I would have fell backwards, screaming 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Loved your poem!
Did the bath get out OK? I loved your poem.
That was a great poem, Daphsam. Sorry about the bat experience, but at least you've got a story to tell.
hahaha, I can imagine the laughter that came whenever that story was retold
Bats are needed but not in a Christmas tree, and I thought they were animals that hibernated in winter, but not sure. I do not ever remember in a house I lived in as a child had many bats and they never came out in Winter only late Spring and Summer. Great story.
