A LOVE THAT KNOWS NO END

What Fun We Had!

By Margaret BrennanPublished 2 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

A short note about this poem.

Mom had dementia and didn’t remember too much.

I asked her one day if my dad was proud of me and she replied with: “Who was your father?”

It broke my heart.

“Mom, your husband was my father.”

“I was married?” she asked looking very confused.

“Mom, do you remember that handsome sailor you married?”

Her normally blank stare took on a new spark. “My Frankie? My Frankie?”

“Yes, Mom. You married your Frankie and he was my father.”

“I love him so much and always will.”

Those were the last words she ever spoke, but for a brief time, she remembered.

And that is why I wrote this poem.

A LOVE THAT KNOWS NO END ..

What fun we had!

XO XO Zzz – XO XO Zzzz

Many countless hours

Were spent scribbling on a pad,

While thinking of my love you for

And all the fun we had.

XO XO Zzz – XO XO Zzzz

I look back on our Wedding day

And recall our solemn vow,

Remembering the love we made,

And how our lives are now.

XO XO Zzz – XO XO Zzzz

Many years have passed us by,

Our steps have slowed a bit.

We no longer dance the night away;

Now we prefer to sit.

XO XO Zzz – XO XO Zzzz

Yet, we don’t look any older,

Just a wrinkle, maybe two;

Despite the graying of our hair,

I’m still in love with you.
