A Lantern in the Desert
A light in the dark

A dim lit lantern sits in the desolate desert,
A storm brings a chill to a dark, dangerous night,
The moon called in sick, the stars hardly shine,
It's lonely, and the only sound is a whine,
...
The whine of the wind, haunting and ghostly,
A lantern boldly awaiting it's time.
Surely somebody will need use of its glory,
A traveler lost will make use of it's shine.
...
For now, the lantern fights with a soul full of fire,
To stay grounded, illuminating the world with it's light,
It once felt forgotten, deserted, and broken,
Until a spark lit it's purpose with magnificent might.
...
The fire rekindled inside of the lantern,
As a lightshow of lightning lit up the sky,
The frightening fear faded to courage,
The hopeless lantern decided to try.
...
It won't be long before a traveler finds promise,
A light in the distance, a warmth far away,
The dim light brighter than a cold empty shadow,
A message of hope, that all is okay.

Wow awesome poem really liked the message of hope
Congrats on TS.
Loved the imagery here I felt like I could see the lantern. Reminds me of a lighthouse that is waiting for a ship to dock.
Your imagery is striking: “The moon called in sick” instantly sets the tone with both wit and melancholy.
Well penned, and a great entry for the challenge.
This desert can be real or a metaphor...either way...the light is welcome.
The moon called in sick. I love it. This is so hopeful, imagine seeing this light on a dark night. So great.
