A Lament for Bleeding Hearts
A poem about love and heartbreak

The wounds we make cut ever deep
Though they never break the skin
No blemish, bruise, or welt can creep
O'er the shadow we let in
In baited breath, we whisper lies
That our battered cores permit
Yet we reprise the lamented sighs
Of the regrets that we commit
Oh! Sweet succor of gentle balm
Of nights spent intertwined
Yet in the heart of sacred calm
Our peace becomes maligned
Oh, Love, that madness you have plotted,
Why have you wound your wire sweet
Around my tender heart, garroted
By its lone desire to beat?

This has a lovely rhythm to it, and I love the use of garroted for a rhyme. Well done!
