A Kingdom Majestically Erecting
A short poem about falling in love at first sight–from across the room.

Letters in neon lights and technicolor– I learned your name through
the murmurs traveling in sonic waves
arriving with reservation at my amygdala. A shimmering decadence
unfolding within your crystalline iris. From a corner,
imbibing on effervescent hopes
I threw in the fishing line and caught
the wildest game around. To adore you from afar
reminds me of deciphering constellations
underneath the blistering
heat of unsupervised youth yearning for
the cool embrace of distant stardust. I see the freckles
sprinkled throughout the uncharted territory of your
unaware heart. The days before you are
a kingdom majestically erecting
in a united nation. We govern
under the rule of arduous creeds
around the districts of your never-ending
legs and bountiful hair strands
which I now use
to navigate the distance between my fervor and
the spaces between each of your fingers
just waiting to be filled
with the unexpected sensation
of completion. Of hours
clinging to the minute marks
and of conversations filled
not with words, but substitutes for
silence— glances, gazes and glistening
grit. Venture with me
around this untamed
wilderness
as conquerors of
the intersecting channels
that are our blood vessels
intertwined as one
Pangea.
